Vocational Education and Training

Get VET arrives in schools

Get VET is an exciting new publication produced by the VCAA outlining the wide range of opportunities that Vocational Education and Training (VET) can offer secondary students. Schools should by now have received their allocation of the Get VET publication addressed to the principal. Refer to Notice to Schools 99/2018.

VET statewide workshops

VCAA VET statewide workshops will be held in November. It is important that schools delivering VET have at least one staff member attend as there will be significant information about VET reforms including changes to Block Credit Recognition, new VCE VET programs, scored task type changes, SWL Recognition updates, quality assessment samples and the launch of additional Get VET promotional material.

Workshops will be held in Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Horsham, Melbourne CBD, Mildura, Morwell, Preston, Ringwood, Shepparton, Brimbank, Wangaratta and Warrnambool. Information about locations and registrations is available on the VET Professional Development webpage.

The current 22246VIC Certificate II in Equine Studies is scheduled to expire on 31 December 2018. The VCAA has requested a 12-month extension to 22246VIC Certificate II in Equine. All enrolments in 2019 will be in 22246VIC and current students will continue their training in 22246VIC Certificate II in Equine Studies until the end of 2019.

New VCE VET Plumbing program

The 22304VIC Certificate II in Plumbing (Pre-apprenticeship) is a new VCE VET Plumbing program, available to schools from the beginning of 2019. Students currently enrolled can move their enrolment to the VCE VET program by enrolling and carrying forward Units of Competency completed in 2018 or earlier. All students must transition to the VES version of the qualification by 2020. All new students will enrol in the VCE VET Program from 2019. Further details are available on the Plumbing webpage.

New VCE VET Civil Infrastructure program

The RII20715 Certificate II in Civil Construction, which forms the new VCE VET Civil Infrastructure program, will be available to schools from the beginning of 2019. Students currently enrolled can move their enrolment to the VCE VET Program by enrolling and carrying forward Units of Competency completed in 2018 or earlier. All students must transition to the VES version of the qualification by 2020. All new students will enrol in the VCE VET Program from 2019.

VCE VET Scored Assessment Audit

School Coursework Audit Notification (SCAN) emails will be sent to selected schools and RTOs for the 2018 audit of their scored VCE VET programs. It is important to follow the instructions included with the email. The school/RTO identified as the Assessing Group has the responsibility of providing the audit material to the VCAA. Questions regarding the audit can be directed to the VET Unit on (03) 9032 1737.

Correction: VCE VET Engineering transition advice

In the VCE VET Engineering transition advice published in VCAA Bulletin No 42 (September 2018), the date by which VASS enrolments must be altered for students who have commenced training in 22209VIC in 2018 and wish to move to 22470VIC was incorrectly listed as 15 November 2018. The correct date by which these changes must be made is Monday 12 November. The error has been corrected in the PDF version of the VCAA Bulletin and on the VCAA website.
