Schools are reminded that NAPLAN tests will take place from Tuesday 10 to Friday 20 May.

The tests must be administered in the order, on the dates and within the times specified in the timetables provided in the 2022 Handbook for principals – NAPLAN Online. Under no circumstances may a test be conducted before the official test date or time. Please note that the NAPLAN test security period is until Friday 3 June.

The NAPLAN 2022 principals’ packages were delivered to schools from Friday 28 January. If you have not received the principals’ package, please contact the NAPLAN helpdesk on 1800 648 637

This package includes the 2022 Handbook for principals – NAPLAN Online, the Important information for NAPLAN 2022 document and a cover letter that contains a new password to access the Test Administration website and VCAA Data Service.

2022 writing test information

As in previous years, there will be two writing prompts: one for Years 3 and 5 and a different one for Years 7 and 9. The genre for the NAPLAN 2022 writing test will be either narrative or persuasive, and it will be the same genre for all year levels. The genre for the writing test will not be disclosed before the test day and students will not be able to choose the genre in which they write their response.

The Year 3 writing test will be conducted using paper tests for all schools.

More information can be found on the Writing marker information page.

Digital Assessment Library

New assessments

The Digital Assessment Library (DAL) offers free, high-quality online classroom student assessments, designed to provide teachers with meaningful and timely information about student learning and progress.

DAL assessments align to the Victorian Curriculum F–10, across Mathematics, English, Science, Critical and Creative Thinking, and Health and Physical Education.

The following new assessments are now available:

  • English Spelling Focus assessments (Levels 2–7)
  • English Comprehension Skills assessments (Levels 2–10)
  • Science Sub-strand assessments (Chemical Sciences, Levels 7–8 and 9–10)

To find out more about the assessments on the DAL, go to the DAL Catalogue in the help section of the DAL Platform.

Critical and Creative Thinking (CCT) marking offer

CCT assessments on the DAL require teacher marking. We are offering to mark selected CCT assessments that are administered by schools by Friday 18 March. All you need to do is administer the assessments and we will do the rest. This is a great opportunity to try these innovative assessments and have them marked. If you are interested, please contact the DAL Helpdesk.

Professional learning sessions

Register for a range of professional learning sessions being offered throughout Term 1. These free sessions have been designed to introduce schools to the DAL Platform, as well as provide information around the different assessments available, including guidance on administration and reporting. There are also specialist sessions for Science and Health and Physical Education, with additional specialist sessions to be announced in the coming weeks. For enquiries, including new school registrations, please email the DAL Helpdesk.
