F–10 curriculum

Timelines for the Victorian Curriculum F–10 Version 2.0

Revision of the Victorian Curriculum F–10 is underway and timelines for the publication, familiarisation and implementation of the Victorian Curriculum F–10 Version 2.0 have now been confirmed.

The revised Victorian Curriculum F–10 Mathematics will be published for familiarisation and trial from Term 3, 2023, with sectors responsible for implementation in schools from the beginning of 2024.

All other revised curriculum areas will be published in late 2023, for familiarisation and trial in 2024. Sectors will be responsible for implementing the revised curriculum in schools from 2025.

To support implementation of the revised Mathematics curriculum in 2024, familiarisation will commence from Term 3 2023, with the provision of information sessions, professional learning programs and supporting resources. Similar familiarisation support materials and professional learning opportunities will be available throughout 2024 for all other curriculum areas.

Getting the most from VCAA language assessments

Developed with and hosted by the Australian Council for Education Research (ACER), our online language assessments include a series of multiple-choice listening and reading tests in Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Modern Greek and Spanish. The assessments can provide a snapshot of individual student's receptive reading and listening skills, which teachers can use to better target each student's learning needs.

To support teachers implementing the Victorian F–10 Languages curriculum, we are offering short online professional learning sessions on how to use the VCAA's free online language assessments.

The sessions are aimed at teachers and educators new to online assessments or who would like a refresher on the language assessments.
The first session will be held on 2 May and will focus on how the assessments can be used and linked to the Victorian Curriculum F–10.

The second session, on 10 May, will cover the available data and reports to better target individual student learning needs

Digital Assessment Library

New assessments

The Digital Assessment Library offers over 230 assessments for Mathematics, English, Science, Critical and Creative Thinking, and Health and Physical Education. All assessments are closely aligned to the Victorian Curriculum F–10 and range from broad to highly targeted.

We have recently added these new Science assessments:

  • Sub-strand assessments (Biological Sciences) Levels F–10
  • Focus assessments (Chemical Sciences and Physical Sciences) Levels F–4
  • Focus assessments (Earth and Space Sciences) Levels F–10

In addition, in partnership with the Department of Education, we are currently developing a new suite of Mathematics Focus Assessments to support the measurement of learning progress in Mathematics over short teaching cycles.

These assessments will be released progressively, starting in May. They will be highly targeted and based upon a single content description from a single level in the Mathematics F–10 curriculum. The assessments will be short and quick to administer, providing a granular understanding of current student learning and support targeted teaching. They will be provided in sets to enable pre- and post-assessment during the teaching cycle.

Professional learning

A range of professional learning sessions are being offered throughout Term 2. These sessions have been designed to introduce schools to the DAL Platform, as well as provide information around the different assessments available, including guidance on administration and reporting. There are also specialist sessions for English, Mathematics and Science.

These sessions will go through the assessments in detail, their links to the curriculum and include case studies that demonstrate the use of student data to inform teaching. Please also share the link below with any colleagues that would be interested in attending.
