Power and the Ancient World with Professor Mary Beard: A Lecture for Students of Ancient History, Classical Studies and Latin

From the origins of free speech and politics to the corrupting forces of power and leadership, much can be learnt from Ancient Greece and Rome.

Energise your VCE Classical Studies, VCE Ancient History and VCE Latin students for the year ahead in this exclusive school’s event with the world’s most famous classicist, Professor Mary Beard, in conversation with Dr Rhiannon Evans.

Event date: 11am-12pm Wednesday 6 March 2024.

Venue: Conversation Quarter, State Library of Victoria

This program will take your students beyond the hype of the political arena to the heart of the palace corridors and everyday classical life of the ancient Mediterranean world. In conversation, Mary and Rhiannon will discuss what we can learn from the classical past - exploring power, free speech, leadership and gender through the lens of the ancient world.

Afterwards, your students will have the opportunity to ask Mary questions in a Q&A.

Low SES schools are eligible for travel bursaries for this event. For further information contact: education@slv.vic.gov.au or call 8664 7478.
