Review of EAL and Levels A–D: Towards Foundation

The VCAA is committed to providing schools with an inclusive F–10 curriculum that supports the learning needs of all our students. In keeping with this commitment, we have begun reviewing the F–10 English as an Additional Language (EAL) curriculum for students whose language is other than English and the Levels A–D: Towards Foundation curriculum for students with significant intellectual disabilities and learning needs.

The aim of the review is to update and refresh these curricula and align them to Version 2 of the Victorian Curriculum F–10, which the VCAA is releasing in stages over the next 12 months.

The scope of change for the reviews will reflect teacher experiences of using these curricula, the most recent findings from research literature and system-wide data collected through the VCAA’s annual monitoring framework scheduled to start in Term 1 2024.

Drafting the next iteration of these curricula will be guided by reference panels that include practising teachers from special and mainstream schools, academics and other experts. The VCAA will call for expressions of interest from teachers to join the reference panels in 2024. Please look out for future updates in the Bulletin, F–10 Curriculum Update and Notices to schools.

The provisional date for publishing Version 2.0 of the EAL and Levels A–D curricula for familiarisation is November 2024. The exception to this is Levels A–D English and Mathematics, which the VCAA intends to fast track to coincide with the early release of the revised English and Mathematics curricula. Levels A–D English and Mathematics will be published early Term 3 2024.

F–10 Curriculum aligned resources to support bushfire education in schools

Fire danger level signpost

With an increased risk of bushfires in Victoria this spring and summer, primary and secondary school teachers are reminded of the range of classroom resources available to help prepare all young Victorians for the challenges of living in a bushfire-prone country.

The sequenced lesson plans explore the themes of learning about, preparing for, responding to, and recovering from bushfires.
